Zackary's Viking Birthday Party

My little boy is turning two next month, so what better time than to re-cap his 1st birthday party! I knew from the beginning it would be a viking/Norway themed party with nautical hints thrown in.  My husband is part Norwegian, and we made the nursery theme based off of a viking ship painting that was passed down to my husband, so the party theme made perfect sense!

We had a relaxed party at the house with family and a few friends.  For decor, I mainly focused on the food area, which is our dining room.
I made the above invitation on Photoshop.
Behind the invitation I re-used spaghetti jars and painted them and added twine for vases.
Since his birthday is in the summer, there was lots of Red, White and Blue decor to choose from! I picked up some flowers at Michael's that were at a great price.
Fun nautical bucket that I used to hold the silverware.  I wrapped the silverware in nautical napkins from Ikea, wrapped them in twine with life preservers (life saver candy).
The drink station was on our dining buffet.  We had fruit punch Kool-aid for the kids and waters and sodas for the adults.  My mom gave me the fabric scraps of Zack's quilt she made for him, so I made him a tassel garland and used some of the other scraps for table runners and additional decor.
I think the tassel garland is my favorite!  I have it hanging in his room now above the changing table.

Some of the food - Viking Booty and Fish
I think this was my best food spread yet!  The red, white and blue theme was so easy, didn't take much thought, and I had fun coming up with Viking/Nautical food ideas.

Smash Cake with Nautical Cookies
Since birthday parties are the only time I have time to bake or try out new recipes, I opted to try for some custom looking nautical cookies.  I made anchors, life preservers and the Norway flag.  It was definitely a trial and error on these bad boys, but I think they look pretty good, and I thought they tasted good too!  I tried so many different icing recipes during this process!

What we wore: For the first part of the party, Zack had a custom onesie embroidered by my mom with his name and a viking ship.  We all had matching Viking shirts. One of Andrew's old college friends hand drew the viking and we had them made into shirts!

Yummy!
These two though!

It was a great party to celebrate Zack-Attack, now on to the next party!!  This year will be all about bubbles - he is OBSESSED with bubbles!!!

Zackary-4 months!

Happy four months baby boy!  You've had a great month.  You are such a happy baby, you give smiles to everyone!  And from what I hear, you are quite the flirt!  One of the day care ladies was commenting on how you have smiles just for them, but when she found out you were giving smiles to another lady, she was not happy!  Such a ladies man! ;)

4 month stats:
I am totally guessing here.....we don't go back for check up until Nov 1.
Weight: 14 lbs?  Height: 26"  ??

You Love to:
  • Smile, doesn't matter at who
  • Grab things
  • Roll over!!
  • Suck on your hand, arm, fingers, etc.
  • Drool
  • Coo and babble at mommy
  • Watch Football with Daddy
Watching football, go UCF!

Firsts:

  • You went on your first Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Walk.  You hung out in your stroller for the whole race, slept a little, but mostly liked to look around at everyone wearing pink!  You supported your Aunt Sissy very well!!!
With daddy before the race
My pink Girl!
During the race

Race Bibs

  • You rolled over! From the back to front.  We were all super excited!  You had been half rolling over for a little bit, but now you are a rolling over champ!

I am still amazed at what an awesome, happy baby you continue to be!!! Love you my "Zack Attack!"
Sibling Love!

Zackary - 2 months

Oh my sweet, sweet baby boy.  I can't believe you are already 2 months old!  That means I only have one more month of maternity leave.  This makes me so sad, but this is not the time to think about that!  I still have a whole month to enjoy your precious coos all to myself, everyday!

2 Month Stats:
  • 11 lbs, 15 oz (49%)
  • 24" long (91%) - everyone definitely comments on how long you are!

You love to:
  • Smile at mommy (especially in the mornings)
  • Coo and make cute sounds
  • Go for walks
  • Swing and swing
  • Be bounced and rocked, constantly.  You need to be constantly on the go, I have a bad feeling about this that as soon as you learn to crawl and walk, you will be all over the place!
Firsts:
  • You had your first time in the pool!  I think you loved it.  You didn't cry and just looked around and enjoyed yourself.  I think you will definitely be a water baby like your sister!

You are such a good baby.  You nurse well and you sleep well.  Right now you are taking about a 2 hour nap in the morning and between 3-4 hour nap in the afternoon.  You go to bed around 8-9pm and sleep anywhere from 3-5am to feed, and then usually go right back to sleep.  Sometimes though, you want to play and coo with mommy for about an hour, and then you go back to sleep.  Kaitlyn still loves and adores you.  She is constantly kissing and hugging you and pushing your swing for you.  Not sure you like being poked and prodded, but that's how it is!  I am always saying to her, "don't touch your brother", and she always replies, "I'm not touching him".  And usually she has her fingers mere millimeters away from you, almost but not touching him.  I can see this same thing happening when your are both older...hee hee.

And time for some pics:

Look at the difference! Definitely fills out the onesie now!

25 Weeks

Well time is literally flying by with this pregnancy, and with me doting on a 2 year old going on 13, haven't had much time to think about this pregnancy as much, let alone blog about it. (Cue 2nd born syndrome)  Anyway, here is my update on this pregnancy, week #25!  And here is week 25 from my 1st pregnancy.

How many weeks along: 25

Belly button innie or outtie: Outtie all the way, been that way for a while now.  Guess my skin stretched out last time and stayed that way.

Baby is the size of a(n): Cauliflower?  That's a weird one.  From the bump: Your baby measures about 13.6 inches to 14.8 inches and weighs about 1.5 to 2.5 pounds.

Gender: All boy!  We found out around week 20.

Nursery Progress: Hmmm.......not much here.  I have the vision, know what I want to do, haven't done much yet.  But we are getting a little bit closer to getting the room cleaned out!  Baby steps people.....

Baby Movement: This little boy is a shaker and a mover!  Especially after I have anything sweet.

Any stretch marks? Let's just say no new ones yet.....

Cravings? Anything sweet, chocolate and ice cream are my go to items.

Weight gain: At my last appt, which was last week, I am up 17 lbs.

Other pregnancy symptoms: I'm just starting to get into the uncomfortable stage, like getting up and sitting down or rolling over in bed.  But overall, everything is still going well!

Looking Forward To: Well not really, but making my appt for my Glucose test and Rhogam shot.  It just means it's getting closer and closer!!

Upcoming Weekend Plans:  Heading down to see my parents, getting a sneak peek at the bedding fabrics that my mom is using for the quilt and sheets.  Going to finalize the paint colors for the nursery so we (Andrew) can get to painting!
25 Weeks!

A view from up top, loving my new Old Navy Maxi Dress and Belt I got from Platos.  Thinking one outfit for my maternity photos.

I have a secret.....

I have a secret...and it belongs across my face....I keep it very close to me, in a most convenient place.  I know you'll never guess it, if you ask a long long while....so I'll take it out and put it on....it's a great big PREGNANT SMILE!!! :)

P.S.  I wrote this post the day after I found out we were expecting baby number 2!  I was dying to tell someone, so I figure, hey, I will blog about it and then post it later!
