Ready. Set. WRITE! - My Goals

I am stepping out on a huge ledge here, and joining some lovely writers for my FIRST EVER writing link up.  So without further ado...
Here's a little bit about READY. SET. WRITE!

Ready. Set. WRITE! is a summer writing intensive that provides an opportunity for us to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing—planning, drafting, or revising. We set goals, write/revise/plan like crazy, and keep one another accountable.  It is hosted by Alison, Katy, Erin, Jaime & Elodie.

I need this accountability, desperately.  Especially if I ever plan to actually finish this manuscript.
So here are my big goals for the summer:

  1. Get my word count to 40,000 for my WIP. I'm currently at 17,000, so that will be roughly 2000 words a week.
  2. Go to the beach at least twice this summer.
  3. Get more active within the writing community, whether it's blogging, twitter, etc. Just get out there and start conversations!
Which leads me to my first weekly goal:
  1. Write 2000 words for the week!  Short and simple, I am really hoping I can do this!

Oh, and since this is my first time doing Ready. Set. WRITE!, here's a little bit about me.  Hi, I'm Suzanne! I live in Florida with my lovely husband, our two crazy kids (Kaitlyn is 4, Zack is 1) and our two spoiled kitties.  I am an interior designer by day and try to fit in my writing on lunch breaks, nights, weekends and long work flights (clearly I'm failing!) I'm a closet writer, my husband is the only one that knows I'm writing a novel, so it's finally out there in the open!  I am very excited and nervous to be doing this! Thanks for reading!

  1. Good luck with your summer goals! You can totally get your MS to at least 40,000 over the next few months if you're motivated. You might even surpass your initial goal, as so often happens to me.

  2. We love the goal to get more active with the writing community. This seems so easy but it is a definitely a job within itself to stay active and engaged. Good luck with your goals :)

  3. I have so many things to say! First, I was a closet writer for a long time, and going public was seriously one of the best choices I've ever made. It's so nice to have a community rallying around you and commiserating with you and sharing in your successes. Second, I live in Florida, too, for ten more days, and I'm so sad that we're moving away! I love the beach so much, and I fully support your goal of visiting at least twice this summer. :-) Third, best of luck building on the manuscript you're working on. RSW has been amazing for my productivity in the past, and I bet you'll find the same is true for you, too. So glad you decided to join us, Suzanne!

  5. Congrats on coming out of the Writer's Closet (though, some of those I've seen are pretty amazing ... just did a Google search for "writer's closet office space" and .. drool).

Welcome on in. I'm a first-year RSW person too, though I do a similar year-round challenge called the ROW80 that you might like to check out too. Accountability and support networks for writers are a MUST.

  7. I love that you put a little bio in your post! That should absolutely be a requirement for future years. That way I don't have to hunt around for people's bio pages. Haha! Glad you took the plunge and good luck with your goals!
